League Match
Bude
3 Morwenstow 1
Bude maintained their 100%
winning start to the season in this highly anticipated mid week derby. A
frantic start saw both teams looking to gain control. It was Bude who drew
first blood after 15 minutes, a Josh Allen free kick from the right picked
out striker Tommy Statton who's glancing header found the bottom left
corner. Morwenstow soon drew level though, a fast break down the
right saw the ball squared to the penalty spot where an unmarked Danny
Gifford arrived to slot home the equalizer. Possibly the defining moment
of the game came early in the second half when the ball hit Bude defender
Simon Veales' arm and the ref awarded a penalty. Young Ashley Thomas
stepped up but blasted his shot over the cross bar. Minutes later
Bude went ahead, Jason Veale ran with the ball in to the box and cut it
back for Statton who scored down the middle of the goal with the help of a
slight deflection. Bude started to get on top, with defenders Allen, Wayne
Cornish, Dan Starkey and Si Veale shutting out well the Moostow attacking
line. Going forward Bude started to look more and more threatening and
increased their lead after 75 mins, a floated fee kick from Herbie
Goodgroves went loose in the box and winger Steve Hackett scored with his
left. On 80 minutes Stevie Box won a penalty for Bude after being
brought down by a defender and Statton confident of his hat-trick smashed
the spot kick against the cross bar. A deserved victory for Bude in the
end against the ever tough opponents of Morwenstow.
