Bude 2 Lanreath 2
Bude took the lead
twice in this encounter but a strong Lanreath team pulled the lead
back each time. Bude should have had the game wrapped up by half
time with a number of missed chances, but they did take the lead
midway through the half when a Jason Ferrett cross from the left saw
striker Tommy Statton get in front his marker and head in from 6
yards out. Lanreath equalised when an Andy Collins free kick was
cleared from the box by Bude, but the ball was crossed back in to
the box and Rob Cole was left free at the back and made no mistake
from close range. The missed chances then came with Dan Balsdon
rounding Lanreaths’ keeper Jamie Castle, but Castle did enough to
put Balsdon off as he shot wide, Balsdon was then put through one on
one with the keeper but again struck his shot wide of the far post.
Defender Wayne Cornish came up for a corner and he put a free header
over the bar from yards out.
The second half
was a more scrappy affair with both teams resorting to long balls,
but Bude again took the lead when Jason Ferretts’ corner from the
right was bent in to the near post. Confusion between defender Pete
Bailey and the visiting keeper saw the ball go straight in the goal
with the keeper desperately punching the ball back in to the roof of
the net. Straight after Wayne Cornish had an identical header as the
one in the first half and again put it over the bar from a yard out
when it seemed harder to miss. Budes’ keeper Matt Warburton was
kept busy for the final 20 mins making various excellent saves, and
a 40-yard strike from Andy Collins was superbly tipped over the
bar. A Bradley Powell corner was then partially cleared, a Lanreath
player shot, which Warburton saved again only to see the ball fall
in to Coles path who made no mistake to grab his second.
