Cornwall Senior Cup Match
Bude 5
St Ives 1
St Ives made the long trip up to
Broadclose for this Cornwall Senior cup 1st round tie and saw themselves
go a goal behind after 20 mins when striker Shane Looker was brought down
on the edge of the box, the linesman confirmed it was inside the area
which the St.Ives players were livid about. Norman Foster stepped up
and tucked the spot kick away. Bude then went two nil up, some
superb quick passing saw the ball flicked on the edge of the box in to
Tommy Statton's path and he unselfishly squared the ball to Stevie Box who
had a simple tap in from yards out although he nearly managed to put it
over the bar. St.Ives continuously made the Bude back line work and
hit the woodwork twice during the half and on another day it could easily
have been them going in at half time two nil to the good. In the
second half St.Ives were becoming more and more frustrated which was
showing with some late tackles creeping in to their game. Statton
made it three nil on the hour when Foster broke through, shot past the
keeper, hit the post and Statton scored the rebound with a well taken
strike. A St.Ives player then lost his rag and was shown red after
abusive language towards the linesman. Bude capitalised with the
extra man and saw two more goals go in, Foster grabbing his second
nutmegging the keeper and soon after Looker grabbed Budes' fifth again
putting the ball through the keepers legs. St.Ives grabbed a
consolation goal with minutes remaining, but it was Bude defender
Wayne Cornish who grabbed his first of the season, turning the ball in to
his own goal after putting in a last ditch tackle on a striker.
